What Are The Home Design Ideas For The New Year?

Are you looking for some new home design ideas as you ring in the New Year? Whether you are starting from scratch or simply wanting to update a few rooms, there are many great options to choose from. Keep reading for some tips on how to get started!

Roll Out A Glamorous Bar Cart

Bar carts add a splash of glamour to any living space or kitchen and can be truly personalised to suit your style,' says Lucy St George.

'I always recommend dedicating an area in your home to create your drinks trolley style spot - you want the space to sing and not be hidden away. It is especially true for New Year's Eve, and a few simple touches such as fairy lights, candles and star or bauble garlands can help set the tone and create a party atmosphere.

'For the perfect final touch, why not add a set of three disco balls to one side of your drinks trolley to embrace the celebration theme of New Year's Eve. These can be left on display all year round, with fairy lights or garlands replaced with plants for a dash of greenery that suits any season.

Create Drama At The Dining Table

If you're hosting a dinner party on New Year's Eve, go full throttle with dramatic decor to impress your guests.

Geraldine Florin, the interior designer at Maisons du Monde, says: 'Run a garland of battery-powered lights down the centre of your dining table if you are hosting friends or family for dinner to add some sparkle and gold tableware.

Take coloured baubles from the tree and place them in bowls or transparent vases to create a centrepiece for the table, or place them on a console table in the hallway for guests to see when they arrive.

You can also use ribbons to hang baubles from a pendant light in the kitchen or a chandelier above the dining table. If you don't have anywhere to hang baubles above, consider tying them to the back of dining chairs, ready to welcome dinner party guests.

Or you can attach baubles to a hand-tied bunch of fairy-lit foliage and hang them on the wall for added festive ambience.

Ooze An Intimate Atmosphere With Candlelight

Is there anything as warm and inviting as candlelight? We think not. Candles are an affordable and easy way to make your guests feel cosy and snug as they see in the New Year.

When it comes to decorating for New Year, my favourite thing to do is to add touches of sparkle to the home,' says Geraldine Florin. 'Candles are perfect for this and so versatile; choose pillar candles in the mantelpiece, tea lights on sideboards, or majestic candlesticks at the dining table or on a console to bring height and light to your home.'

Repurpose Your Christmas Tree

One of the easiest things to work around your existing home decor! If you already have a Christmas tree up, don't take it down! Instead, remove the red decorations and replace them with metallic ones. You can hang gold and silver ornaments on the tree, wrap them in shiny garland, or display a pretty banner across the front. Leave the string lights on, of course!

New Year's Eve requires champagne, so why not bring on the bubbly with a sparkling bar? A bottle of champagne complemented with elegant glassware, fresh-cut fruits, citrus twists, and herbs will make your bar stand out. Add quirky sticky labels, party hats, and drink labels to give it more drama.

New Year's Eve Wall Decorations

First, turn your wall into a fancy selfie corner. This brick cladding accent wall with neon signage will add a bold statement to your New Year decor and be unforgettable for your guests. Then, add two wrought iron chairs and a faux fur carpet to bind the look together. This setup is sure to make your living decor the talk of the town.

Boho Casual

Low-key bohemian-inspired New Year's Eve decorations are perfect for a casual soiree. Even though it's laidback, a boho New Year's Eve party theme can be very chic. First, set a farmhouse-style table complete with various candles, different scatter cushions, and unique balloons dangling above the table to create the look at home. Then, add a special touch like the feather wall hanging pictured above to round off the look.

Disco Glitz

A disco-themed party is sure to get guests in the mood for dancing. So ensure you have enough room for a mini dance floor and, of course, disco balls. Everything that shimmers and sparkles can form part of your NYE decoration. However, keep to a colour scheme to ensure a luxurious design that is equally fun and sleek.

Black Metals

Black metal elements are stronger than ever, and you will be able to see more of them everywhere, from magazines to your favourite stores. As we see above, we will continue to see plenty of homes with black steel windows and more matte black light fixtures, cabinet hardware, and furniture.

Walnut Cabinetry & Furniture

Many have loved White Oak for quite some time now, but Walnut is making its way! Interior designers use it on cabinets and countertops, while furniture companies design fresh new pieces using this gorgeous wood. Stain colour will vary, from

medium-light to dark as long as it allows the natural grain to show through.

Statement Flooring

The statement flooring trend is not going anywhere just yet! Herringbone-patterned floors are the most popular and will continue to be. Think outside the box and try it with different materials, such as the tumbled cobblestone seen above.

Natural Material Lighting

Woven is often the "magical touch" that many spaces need. It brings warmth almost immediately, and woven lighting is becoming a strong alternative to replace metal. It works beautifully in many interior styles, but I often prefer it in coastal interiors.

High Contrast Interiors

Expect to see interiors that use colour and decor to create more impact. When using saturated colour, make sure to balance it with natural elements of white to make the space feel more harmonious.

Warm Paint Colours

I am certain that this trend started with Benjamin Moore choosing "Caliente AF-290" as the "Colour of the Year ". We are now seeing interior designers using warmer colours without hesitation.

If you're like me, you wouldn't like living with too much colour on the walls, but you shouldn't be afraid to refresh the colour on your front door with something that feels current and a bit daring.

Velvet

From the catwalk to our homes, the velvet will be the fabric of 2018! Although I can't see this trend surviving summer, I think this is a great time to refresh your home with some velvet pillows or bedding.

I have seen people using it on walls (instead of wallpaper), but that's something a bit too daring for me. But if you love how this soft and luxurious fabric feels, why not invest in a beautiful piece of furniture like the velvet sofa above? Certain pieces are so timeless that you don't have to worry about trends.

Bold Kitchens

Although I honestly can say that I don't think that white kitchens will ever stop being admired, bolder kitchens are appearing everywhere! Designers are not only adding colour to the islands but also cabinetry.

This trend is not for everyone – the designer needs to be good enough to balance all of the elements (so you don't end up with an overwhelming space), and you need to choose a colour that makes you happy. The kitchen above is a great example of combining colour with elements that complement it beautifully.

Traditional Details

In 2022, we are seeing traditional details making a big comeback. With so much change around the world over the past few years, it's no surprise that more and more people are craving a sense of comfort, timelessness or even a bit of nostalgia in their homes.

So this new year is all about honouring our roots from pattern mixing, skirted or flanged furniture, and the incorporation of antique pieces. And we couldn't be happier about it!

Sustainability

Sustainability has become a major issue for everyone, as it should. Looking into the sustainability of everything is a must. It is excellent that so many designers are trying to learn what the best materials are to use for the long-term health of our ecosystem. Luckily, there is a lot to choose from!

FAQs About Home Builders

like to keep things neutral and pull in many natural elements for texture when decorating for winter. Birch logs, pinecones, sticks, white pom poms, candles, baby's breath, and evergreen clippings are all great winter decor to have on hand.

A great tip is to use flowers and fruit, which add fragrance and colour to the table setting. Try them in a simple jar or a pedestal bowl. Setting them floating in water in clear glasses is another way to achieve an understated yet classy look easily.

One of our favourite times to decorate with cotton is the fall, but we love to decorate in the spring. Well, Christmas is a fun time to use cotton to decorate.

Bring colour to the table via cloth napkins. Put two napkins in different colours or patterns in one napkin ring to give each setting a colourful pop. Fresh flowers are always nice to have on the table.

The best option is to put up fall decor in September or October, once the weather changes. Avoid hanging fall decor anytime before late August so your decorations can be in sync with the season. You'll also want to avoid confusing holiday decor for fall decor.
